1945 Nickel Error Or PMD?

Hi everyone. I jumped on this lot of nickels after only looking at a couple of the George V's and was happy to see the other additions as well.

Just wondering what may have caused the damage to the upper right corner of the 1945 nickel. You'll notice that it carries over slightly to the obverse.

looks like some serious corrosion on that coin. Strange that it only shows up on the top of the coin, the rest of the piece looks in excellent shape.

That makes sense. A problem with the chrome plating causing oxidation of the steel core underneath. So I guess it could be caused by a plating issue or PMD in that section.

These nickels came today and the 1945 definitely has some oxidation forming under the chrome plate. It's a pity because the nickel is otherwise almost flawless. The seller's pictures don't do any justice to the George V nickels. If I could do this once a week I'd never have to work again.
