I've thought about sending this one off to a TPG service for a while after watching the prices EXPLODE after MS62. What do you folks think this one would grade? The luster is much nicer in person ... I don't have the photographic prowess that so many CCF members do, but I'm working on it!   |

I'd call it a 62 with a fair shot at 63.

For those who don't know, pricing goes from 100-200-1000 from 62-63-64.
I'd call this a 62. Not sure how clean the cheek is since that has so much glare, I'd like to see a scan of this coin as well as the pics, to be honest. A scan would show the details, I know what the luster looks like.

With just the obverse to go off there, I'm going to stick with 62, but I will say it may technically be a 58 bumped to a 62. It's not the greatest strike, but I bet it could slide to a 63 on a good day. If it were mine and I was sure it was UNC, I'd probably sub it.

I'd say this is a pretty tough call, actually. I was in the slider (high AU) camp, but recognize that if it got "market graded" we all might be surprised at how high it could come back. I don't think it'd be money wasted to find out (but then of course, it's not my money).

A slider is an AU58 coin that could go MS. The term comes from old fashioned coin cabinets, the coins would slide on the felt or velvet linings and have just a touch of rub as a result... hence the term slider. Nowadays, some people seem to think it means the coin could "slide" to a MS coin even though it's technically AU, and it is a fitting way of saying that.
