How-To-Stop-My-Eliz-I-Shilling-Crumbing-To-Dust-?

When browsing my old collection for my new love of errors, I noticed my Eliz I shilling was crumbling.

Any ideas how to stop / slow down the process of degredation ?

Yikes! I think the first thing I would try to do is contact the V & A or other national museum to speak with a conservator. I have never seen silver crumble before but there is a world full of things I have never seen. Good luck with it.

Is the Elizabethan Era long enough ago for silver to crystallize and fracture? Is it a plated contemporary counterfeit?
