What Do I Call This Fault? - Coin Community Forum

MUDEKI New Member New Zealand 28 Posts	Posted 06/20/2015 06:41 am Trying to update some photos for my website and have photographed some of the 20 or 30 odd New Zealand 20 cent coins I have from 2008 with this error but have also found one minted in 2014. I have called the fault a metal stress error but does this appear in other countries coins and does it have a name and does anyone know what causes this? Forgot to add all these coins are taken from rolls that are rolled at the Canadian mint so have not been tampered with in anyway Edited by MUDEKI 06/20/2015 06:49 am Report this Post to the Staff

Altaira Pillar of the Community Canada 2524 Posts	Posted 06/20/2015 07:26 am I have seen this on Canadian coins of any denomination except the penny. I've always assumed that it's a plating problem since I don't see them in non-multi-ply plated steel coins. Not sure what caused it in the first place though. Report this Post to the Staff

MUDEKI New Member New Zealand 28 Posts	Posted 06/20/2015 5:15 pm I thought that when I first found the fault but as every one I have found is different (unique) it cant be a die fault. I record die progression in my collection so I can follow how they deteriorate. Sad really lol but I am lucky enough to get new coins in bulk often from the same die pairing.
