Osiris Valued Member Canada 118 Posts	Posted 10/12/2015 7:06 pm Hi All: The middle coin, a 1986 penny, was found in a change purse in my grandmother's suite when we cleaned out my parents' home in 2013. It would have been untouched since 1986 or early 1987 latest. On the left is a 1982 penny of the same vintage. On the right is a steel dime. The 1986 penny looks like it's steel. I have yet to weigh it. It is in no way magnetic. If I was to guess, it looks to me like some ancient coins that are described as "silver washed." That said, the 12 sided rim is clearly as copper as the penny to its left. It was stored in a change purse for close to 30 years with other coins of that vintage, and also including some 1967 copper and silver coins. What do you think? Report this Post to the Staff

jjwabraham Valued Member United States 288 Posts	Posted 10/12/2015 7:10 pm Normal penny, silver or white metal plated or more concerning, rubbed with mercury and possibly toxic. We used to rub coins with mercury in the 60's as kids before anyone knew better. Report this Post to the Staff
john100 Pillar of the Community Canada 5324 Posts	Posted 10/12/2015 7:39 pm The 1986 penny looks like either plated or painted, some of the copper colour is starting to show again, if it's nonmagnetic not a dime planchet, weight would help. Report this Post to the Staff
