Looks like a die chip to me, but I am not familiar with Jefferson RPM,s. I would wait for a few more opinions.

I was thinking a lamentation from some metal that got struck onto the planchet. It looks like it wraps around the mint mark on the northeast edge. That's what I see from the images. If this a circulated coin it has stayed on a long time. On a BU coin it may have never been disturbed.

Looks like a RPM to me but never saw one on a Nickel before. Odd though that there is a lumpy looking mass inside the D.

Interesting. Hmm. I'll bump this for more possible comments. I have a feeling it's not an Rpm after looking at it again.

Looks like a D over D with the first punch a bit tilted, Not a D over horizontal D tho, so IMO it is a RPM
