Hello folks. Could you explain what happen to this 1946 S wheatie . The 46 in the date are very weakly struck . His nose looks like he has done a few rounds with a boxer. Also is this an inverted S or a normal one? Thanks again in advance

Over polished dies and possible grease filled struck thru. Typical on 46 cents

looks like struck through some grease accounting for the light 46 and missing part of upper S. The hit on the 9 went and caught the bottom of the S MM too making that flat part on the bottom.

You have what in my opinion is a Ball serif S mintmark LWC in which the "46" was notoriously weak for the issue.
The Lincoln Cent Resource website lists all S mintmark styles for all years and is an excellent source for reference.
Happy Hunting!

I believe I'm more in the over polished die camp.
