Weak obverse strike, reverse shows much more detail. Looks problem-free as far as the retail numismatic market is concerned. XF40, maybe even 45. It compares very favorably with this PCGS XF40 that recently sold on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1876-20-LI...047675.l2557

It is interesting to me how much more the obverse appears worn than the reverse. Is that typical for $20 Liberty gold?

Not typical not not unusual either, more common on Type 2 Libs such as this.

Paul raises a good point. I'm no expert on this series, but Liberty's hair bothered me in particular.
