Need a clearer image of the affected area to see if it is a struck through (not seeing a wave) or not. (showing a wave)

Yes, much better image. Certainly looks like an interesting struck through. The only other thing I can think of is that since it looks very much like an "S" that it could be a light counterpunch. Normally there would be some damage on the reverse opposite of a punch, which I don't see on your coin, but worth taking a close look to see if that area is flattened from a punch hitting the obverse on the date. Neat coin.
