livingdinasaur Pillar of the Community United States 1571 Posts	Posted 02/20/2009 7:37 pm killians 76, I believe it is caused by excessive "polishing, after clashed, or other damage to the die. and due to the location, it acrually caused a slight 'penetration, inyo the bays. I have seen several of these, and If I looked thru the boxes of varieties, and errors, etc, I most likely could show one that was even more drastic in the first bay, where one of yours is. The name is not familiar, and no posts are shown, (or I didn't notice), at any rate, Welcome to the forum! You will find more answers than you have questions! livingdinasaur Pillar of the Community United States 1571 Posts	Posted 02/20/2009 10:09 pm Mikep has beat me to the draw! but he shows what I would have, The "middle one shows about as much as the ones of mine. Physically going back thru the position of the bay, (coin), working die, hubbing die is confusing, but I have to agree it is a crack. It gives the impression that the rear of the bay is only a thin wall, and when "polished heavily", will wear thru. Dick Report this Post to the Staff

mikediamond Pillar of the Community United States 2740 Posts	Posted 02/21/2009 10:38 am It looks like a die dent, with associated cracking of the die. The die struck a tiny donut-shaped object which dented the die face and caused cracking around the margin of the dent. Error coin writer and researcher. Report this Post to the Staff
