Yes I agree that you do have a nice pick-up here. The surfaces are quite pleasing.

Yes, cracked skull. Appears to also be a 'poor man's doubled die'--check the date closely. All the classic signs of a worn die. The reverse may also have a die chip or crack.

The color was always like that but more red when it was fresh. As mentioned, this is called a 'Woody' because the planchet is looks like wood. So the reverse is showing the wood color differences.

So 'toning' is not the cause of the color change on your coin. It is a 'woody'.

Nice woody. Check to see if it's a RIDB.

Woody? Cool. I have never seen a coin with this type of finish before, so I just thought it was toning. Here are a couple of close-ups of the date and the word Liberty. I do feel that the LIB in Liberty is a little off-centered? Thank you, everyone, for educating me on the type of finish this is. Do you think it's worth having graded?

See if the price is higher than the cost to get it graded. A good place to check is ebay.

No, not worth the cost of the grading fees. Third party grading ( TPG) is only cost effective if your final product is worth more that the $50-60 grading fees at a minimum. Check ebay's SOLD listings for an idea of value, both before and after grading.

Rest in Peace

I think it's only worth like 25 bucks in this condition. Not worth the grade, but a fun find. Thanks to everyone for their input.
