Doubling On 1962 P Proof Quarter - Coin Community Forum

A1agrl Valued Member United States 185 Posts	Posted Today 2H 36M ago Most proof quarters show sharp crisp details, yet this 1962P proof quarter has what I believe to be doubling on both the obverse and reverse. The letters are very thick to the point of touching in several areas, including the leaves touching the A, Q, U, and L in "Quarter Dollar". Also, the letters in United States are so fat they touch in several places.... I did compare images of the 1962P quarter and noticed the letters are not as thick nor are the leaves touching as they do on this coin. What is your opinion as to whether this is quarter is doubled. I do not see split serifs, but I also don't see split serifs in the Wexler's examples (thanks snailking1) which have been published. All the examples identified in Wexler's as double dies are consistent with this coin. Especially 1962 25¢ WDDO-001 and 1962 25¢ Pr WDDR-001. The DDO / DDR on these varieties are thick with no split serif, and the leaves on the reverse touch the letters below. Yet, although similar, this coin is not exactly the same and I hope it could be a new variety. It does have great luster. Report this Post to the Staff
