to the CCF, JennyCents!
You could call it a mer-horse, I suppose, but Hippocampus sounds cooler and is the actual name. They were well represented on ancient coins, such as Greek and Roman. More recently they've been featured on several from the United Kingdom.

This beauty arrived in only 2 days! I left my big UV light at my mate's house so had to use a tiny one designed to detect counterfeit bills. The effects were not stunning, so I need to retake with the big light.

That's a pretty modern hippocamp HondoB. In Greek the word hippo means horse. In mythology hippocampus means horse of the sea. Hippopotamus means horse of the river. In biology the human brain's hippocampus is a seahorse shaped structure for learning and memory.

If you don't mind me posting these, I have two ancient hippocamp coins from Syracuse Sicily, 4th - 3rd century BC, obverse Athena with helmet, reverse hippocamp. One is 18mm, the other 16mm.

Excellent hippocamps, livingwater! I will add to your etymology - Hippocampus is the genus of seahorses.
Here's a hippocamp from Gallienus' (260 - 268 CE) "zoo" series:

Thank you, livingwater and Dearborn!

would that be a Sea-Horse?

I called them "mer-horses" before learning their name - from NumisRob, I believe.
