I'm preparing an short review for Russian readers about Charles Keck's medals. And now I can't access the databank to clarify one point. It concerns a medal that is traditionally, albeit unfoundedly, attributed to Charles Keck. This is a Volunteers Medal, 1898-1923, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the War with Spain. I couldn't find this in Ch. Keck's archive. In the information accompanying the sale of one of these medals, I found a note stating that the USWV comission Ch. Keck for this medal in 1923. But I couldn't find this information in the Proceedings of the USWV. Only one seller and researcher suggested that the author was likely A. Newman. The soldier on the medal is depicted in the form of Newman's sculpture "The Hiker." He also attached a photo with his opinion explanation. I came to the same conclusion at one point, but now it's so difficult to access information (archives) that even a VPN doesn't help.And now access to the discussed databank came in very handy in order to view information on Keck and Newman (I don't remember whether the letter N was ever opened or not).

But I'm for all that confused by the mention of a commission from the USWV. Has somebody come across any information about this? And one more... I know for sure that many famous medalliers used images from colleagues. In other words, how acceptable was it for Keck to use the image of Newman's sculpture? Perhaps that's why the medal isn't signed?
