Value Of 1989 Panda Coins

Although pandas are collectible, I would think that rise in gold in the last year
or so would surpass the numismatic value that they had.
Gold today was around $4,350.00 an oz so that by 6 is still a pretty good haul,
especially seeing gold was around $400.00 oz.in 1989

Mintage in 1989 not particularly low. First year 1982 are valuable particularly in hi grades because no one paid much attention then. And more than a few were put in bezels which are impossible to take off without dinging coin.

Just checked some ebay finished auctions. Substantial premiums for early graded coins. Rest are mixed. Apparently there is a "large date" 1989 which carries premium. Looks like yours is the common date 1989. Check them all, you might have one! Good that your coins are still in original sealed mint vinyl. Buyers tend to prefer that. As prices get higher and higher all modern bullion and even the pre 1933 gold lose any premium. Selling on ebay costs around 15% and a smooth transaction is far from assured.

Might as well get used to the process of checking LCS for their best offer and comparing them. There is something to be said about simple cash and carry type transactions versus ebay or trying to sell back to APMEX, etc. On the other hand, not the best idea to go around flashing gold.
