Moving forward with my survey of United States ("US") modern series commemorative coins that were set up to reduce the national debt...The decade of 2000-2009 was one that represented a markedly different period for the modern US commemorative coin series vs. the decades that preceded it. Its new commemorative coin issues all featured private benficiaries for the surcharges collected vs. addressing the national debt.
As such, the nationalistic view of US commemorative coins being a vehicle to directly benefit the nation as a whole was left behind in favor of the series being a potential source of private sponsor funding.
