Found this token in a box lot acquired from a major US coin company. As far as I can tell, it appears authentic. But, would most appreciate input from our colonial community before deciding whether or not to have it pro-authenticated/graded.  |

Important: I have zero expertise in colonial coins and tokens. Boy, it's hard to say. The missing denticles, uneven lettering, and crude details would make me worried that it's just a replica. What's another *Rarities $300 (+1% GP) to have PCGS look at him? I'm not sure what the grading fee would be if he came back unauthenticated? I guess it comes down to "risk and reward"? It could be a cast replica or electrotype, but I'd run it by a few of the better colonial guys before investing in the money to have it authenticated. I don't know if you do facebook, but some of them are in a colonial coins and artifacts group there.

Interesting read. I was not aware of this Colonial pattern piece until now. An exciting and valuable possibility if authentic.
