NGC - Coin of the Day: Among the greatest errors in US coinage is this 1901/0-S Half Eagle that was struck off-center, making it perfect for #MistakeMonday. It is rare for any gold coin with an error to make it to circulation. Stack's Bowers is offering this coin, and you can learn more about it at the auction house lot listing: https://auctions.stacksbowers.com/l...ms-64-pl-ngc

Very cool! You almost never see Off Center errors on gold coins.

Unless all of those scratches on the obverse are on the slab that one looks like it was "improperly cleaned" by rubbing it between your thumb and index finger between a cloth or shirt.

But then again TPG's will look the other way for certain coins or submitters.

And yes you can alter the lighting or angle of the coin for the photo as shown in the first pictures to hide or not reflect all of the scratches.

Rare and spectacular error. The close-up shots don't show any serious hairline scratches. An MS-64 PL grade doesn't seem too generous.

I notice the overdate is very visible. This feature on my AU (non-error!) example is much less obvious.
