1965 Washington Quarter - Annealing Error?

MintedNotPrinted Pillar of the Community United States 1511 Posts	Posted Today 11H 30M ago The flip was helpfully labelled "quarter" The weight is proper, so it's not missing a layer or plated over and heavy. The coin's surface has the appearance of a naturally toned copper coin, red brown to purples. The edge has no seam. Science experiment or truly an error? Thanks for looking. Edit: Here's a closeup and coin scope shots: Edited edit: I don't mean to be obtuse, I'm not convinced it's a true error. Old toned-over copper plating perhaps explains the look, but it would have to have been an extremely thin and uniform plating.
