Numismedia Listing Common Barber Half Dollars As $34 In G4?

I was just about to list a worn 1909 barber half on ebay. Melt is about $24. I was going to start the auction at $20. But when I checked Numismedia, the list price for the most common Barber half dollars in G4 condition is $34. Can that possibly be right? I don't buy or sell early 20th century coins that often, so if I'm missing something, please enlighten me.

I remember watching NumisMedia raising "bottom end" values during the silver run up late last year. Since silver is still rather volatile, maybe the market (or NumisMedia's read of the market) sees people holding on longer and hoping for another run.

Yeah, that's more what I expected. A really worn Barber half is not going to exceed melt.

It is possible for a 1909 G4 to be valued at $34 if it has eye appeal original skin or eye appealing toning. The ebay example that did not sell has a small gash on the reverse and it has been harshly cleaned.

By G4 I assume that means slabbed as G4, not what someone thinks it is raw. $10 extra for the slab seems about right to me.

Well, I am going to toss this coin out there tonight at $20 and see what happens. That's about 80% of current melt.
