Well, it's post-mint damage, so it will reduce, but not negate, the market value comapred with an otherwise identical coin without the gouge.
Very often, when coins are dug up, they are scraped or gouged by whatever tool was used to dig them up. Or sometimes, a coin might receive such damage while still buried underground (for example, if ploughing the field above shatters or disturbs a buried hoard-pot).
