I have a handful of PCGS slabs that need to get submitted for reslabbing and variety attribution. My LCS and PCGS-authorized dealer told me that they could do a submission for me, but the cost would be so high that I should just join PCGS myself and submit my own coins.
How much is reasonable for a PCGS-authorized dealer to charge for submitting on my behalf, after I have paid all the direct PCGS fees like shipping, submission form, reholder, variety attribution?

Your PCGS Platinum membership fee of $249 will give you 8 complimentary submissions. That is the good news but
the bad news it will not cover Variety attributions. Ask your LCS if you could include your coins on one of their next bulk
submissions as they do receive a discount as a PCGS dealer. Best to check the PCGS website for details or maybe NGC.

I think folks must not be seeing this thread, because I know that several people have mentioned LCS TPG submissions over the last few months. Not sure how to get their attention. I might call around to a few places this week. If I get any insights into pricing, I will post it here. |

When you call around to the PCGS authorized dealers make them aware that you are interested in variety attribution. There is an extra $20 charge for the attribution plus the regular service fee.
PCGS will only attribute select varieties. All of this information is available on the PCGS website and you can also locate authorized dealers in your area.

While PCGS and NGC seem to be the most popular TPG's and provide a better return when selling, I would recommend ANACS for the collector with only occasional submissions. No membership required and the fee schedules are reasonable. Regular submissions are generally $24 per coin and variety attribution is an additional $14. Plus if you choose the 15 day tier service there are no minimum amount of submissions required. Check out their pricing at anacs.com |

If the coins were raw, I would consider CAC and ANACS as good options. However, these five coins are already in PCGS slabs. Two are high grade specimens, and I want to keep their grade intact so the varieties become valuable registry set coins.

Ultimately, nothing. I wasn't going to join PCGS to reslab and variety attribute only five coins. I am generally willing to move slowly and carefully with this stuff, as a misstep can burn a lot of value in unnecessary fees.
Someday, I might have enough to submit at a proper scale.
The question of shipping and insurance was also never answered to my satisfaction. It feels risky to send rare coins without the proper guarantees.

Definitely not! =P
I think that submission will have to be made in-person, directly to PCGS at a coin show. The idea of sending that coin through the mail pre-attribution gives me hives.
