JimmyD Bedrock of the Community Canada 21922 Posts	Posted Today 6H 15M ago The last number "V" is an 8 but the third number has me confused. Are there any Iranian coin experts out there? Report this Post to the Staff

Seeker55 Pillar of the Community United States 638 Posts	Posted Today 5H 55M ago The rather worn (or poorly struck) date shown is 1347, which corresponds to 1968 AD. (The arabic number that looks like V is 7.) Here's another example of this coin https://www.vcoins.com/cn/stores/pa...Default.aspx The Creounity date converter explains dates on Iranian coins and can be used to convert Iranian dates to AD. https://creounity.com/apps/time_mac....php&lang=en Edited by Seeker55 Today 5H 45M ago Report this Post to the Staff

publius Pillar of the Community United States 871 Posts	Posted Today 2H 32M ago The key here is that (and this has tripped me up on occasion!) the Iranian numeral 4, also used in Afghanistan, is totally different from the Arabic numeral 4. It looks like the 3 but with a sort of hook, and in case of wear or a poor strike (both exceedingly common, especially on Afghan coins) can be mistaken for a 3, giving an impossible date. tdziemia Pillar of the Community United States 8061 Posts	Posted Today 1H 3M ago I think it's just being pointed out that the Persian 4 is a bit enigmatic under some circumstances. In the case of your coin, I think it's a clear cut 1347 (ok, maybe not so clear because the bottom of the numerals are gone, but clear to those who have experience reading those dates)..
