Hello, I found recently this very rare and unusual coin from the island of Lesbos (350-280): a small bronze coin (12,9 mm, 1,86 gr) representing Sappho with hair in artful bind, and, on the reverse, a chelys and an eagle head. There are other coins allegedly representing the great poetess, but this portrait seems almost certainly of her (because of the reverse).

Nice coin. On reverse it has the city name Mytilene with muscial instrument Lyre. Some have identified the female head as Sappho, persephone, muse, city goddess. Sometimes in auctions she is described as Sappho with ? If the seller provided a reference number you might be able to find how it's described or a match on acsearch.info. By the way, for those who don't know, the word Lesbian came from the island of Lesbos and Sappho's poetry describing female affection.

I have a few coins from Lesbos but mine have Apollo, Zeus.
