Seller - doradotunafish2016 has an interesting coin for sale The Date/Mintmark does not match any die used for the 1914- D Lincoln Cent and the date digit spacing is off .... Valid date/mintmark positions ... Still time if you want to get in a bid .... 33684462386010/17/26 AM UpdateSeller has ended this auction and relisted as an altered coin 336849395939Edited by JimNWLincoln 10/17/2026 2:01 pm

Just the fact that the 1 is not centered between the 9 and 4 tells you it has been altered.

After only one day, the admittedly altered coin already has six bids. I wonder how many of those people really understand what they're bidding on.

How do these sellers not know that they're altered dates?

FYI - I contacted all three of the vendors so far mentioned in this thread with a photo of valid dies & a suggestion that their auction coin date/mintmark position did not match a valid die. Two out of three of the vendors have ended or altered their auctions. One seller - I contacted twice - 2nd question was asking if their altered coin had been in the counterfeit binder they had for sale in a separate auction ..... It has been interesting with past vendor contacts - my favorite to date included the following replies - I have cancer and can not see well enough to look at the valid die picture that you sent, I do not need to double check the auction coin since I bought the coin at a coin shop & lastly "it is none of your business" .... the counterfeit coin sold for hundreds & now this seller has closed his ebay account.
