Hi, I was going through my 'collection' and picked out a few coins which I was having a hard time grading. Could you guys help me out and tell me what you think the grade is and the value of the coin? These are the best pics I could provide. This coin is too shiny So I suspect it has been cleaned...thoughts? Thank you for your help     |

Numismedia says $35 for VG8 and $48 for F-12. Could someone tell me the RedBook value as well as the greysheet value? |

Cleaned I believe but I say F 12 based on feathers and hair. "Liberty" is a little weak but thats not the only detail that matters.

2010 RedBook says $40 for VG-8, $50 for F-12 and $65 for VF-20. Edited by Moe145

I agree it's been cleaned and as such should only be worth maybe 2/3 the price of an original example.
Gradewise I'd be more generous and give it a F-15. I've seen VF-graded coins with similar levels of detail.

Does that fraction go up the higher the grade of the coin? In other words, if there's a coin that grades AU but has been cleaned, and thus lacks its original luster, does that make it worth 1/2 as much (or less even)? or does is stay at 2/3rds? And should this be its own thread...? |
