This is a Magician's coin. You'll find a seam where two halves were put together. They sell these for $5 or $10, but it is worth a quarter.

+1 on the Magicians coin. I can't see how it would be minted otherwise.

The rim area is where most of them are created:

Not how the letters near the rim are reduced?
Check your coin for this?

Check the inside rim on one of the sides. One side will fit into the other. It can't be anything else other than a Magician's coin.

, barak!

If you look under magnification, you will see a fine separation all around the inside of the rim on one side--that was the original reverse. Sounds like you're checking the edge (reeding).

I have seen coins hollowed out that fit microfilm or even nowadays a micro sd card. Pry that guy apart and see if there's some spy secrets inside!

They used to put a tiny hole in the reeding of a $20 gold and whittle gold out from inside, refill with lead, and plug the hole.
