I don't understand the outrageous asking prices on some of these coins

If you're going to beg, you might as well beg for a dollar as a quarter.

Yes you are right it was not really issued as normal currency, I under stand that when they proposed it they were going to do in in silver, had they of done so it would be worth nothing, being in a set is a negetive but you still can not get away from the fact that the 1c and 2c coins are normal 1 & 2c coins, the 50c is normal in that it is the third time they issued the round 50c coin 1966 and 2006 making them normal but all rare. I own three sets and have never sold a coin in my life, it is unlikely that I will start here. If I am correct over the next 10 to 20 years they will go up in value once it become known that they exist and it is realized how rare they are. I will buy any sets I see on the market, good luck hope you get one too.

It actually makes sense now. This seller knows that he will never sell this coin for $50,000.
What he is actually doing is a publicity stunt.
After all, a coin's value isn't just related to its rarity. it's also related to it's popularity.
This seller is hoping that all the talk generated by the listing will increase peoples awareness of the coin, and indirectly, increase its value.
I'm not sure if this tactic will work in the long term but kudos to him for trying.

.....and who knows, someone who has just won the lottery might actually buy it.

(PS. I am not the seller)

i would really like one of the new round 50c but, 50k. I could buy a really nice Porsche 911s and drive to the mint with a chauffeur a lot cheaper.
