PC-2 pattern from 1857. NGC SP-65 Brown. About six known. In comparing the photos to the plates in the auction catalogue, I am pretty sure this was the A. R. Prince coin sold by Jim Charlton in the 1965 CNA Auction. It did not surface publicly again until a couple of months ago. In my book, Past & Nearly Perfect, I described how these were struck on the blank back of the uniface PC-1 patterns. The second striking flattened the PC-1 design. Only the denticles show up in photos, but tilting the coin in good light you can see elements of the PC-1 design remaining.

Congrats! Great historic item, but I'm kinda glad it wasn't the design chosen. "Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

I think in the end they judged all that filigree work too busy and too fragile. Plus, the diameter was too close to the 20 cent.
