hi echizento => nice snake-coin ...

Hmmm, is there anything more threatening-looking than a coiled snake?

Snakes seem to have played a much different role to the Greeks and Romans.

I have noticed that too, JW. I also have a coin with a coiled snake reverse. Sadly the coin was cleaned via electrolysis so there is no patina, just shiny metal. I will be posting some of my provincials in my top 25 thread later. I think I may have posted some a while ago, but whatever. Keep on posting these cool coins echizento!

#4 is a sestertius of the emperor Trajan Decius 249-251 AD. This coin is 27mm and 14.9 grams, it is from Viminacium, Moesia. Legends: TRAIANVS DECIVS AVG/PMS COL VIM/AN XII. The reverse depicts Moesia standing between a Bull and Lion holding a bundle of Rice in the right hand and a Globe in the left. This coin has a nice dark green patina. This is Pick #132.
