That is probably the nicest nickel nickel from circulation I have seen in a while. In downtown Toronto everything is plated! Even the tellers don't want to give me customer wrapped rolls, only machine This is why I gave up roll hunting here, it's pointless!

Yes that nickel kinda jumped right out when I saw it. I like 1970 coinage too as I heard there was a strike at the mint that year. I have a couple of nice quarters from that year too. Until I was on this site I didn't realize roll hunting was so poor in the Ontario region, I actualy thought the opposite was true.

I used to save 1970 nickels in the 1970's. They were hard to find then. Mintage was comparably low. Here is another plucked from circ, not as nice as the first example.

Yes I can recall my dad telling me to save all my 1970s coins that I came across because of low mintage that year. Some more 70s stuff.

I would be happy to find anything from 1970. I have several pennies and one quarter in average shape from that year, and I don't think I will ever find any more because they are being melted. Those are in good shape!

All those 70s coins were found this 2014 year, I am still getting pennies at banks , you just have to ask. The worst the teller can say is no, then ask to talk with the manager. Those pennies were all found in the same batch of rolls so I think someone was saving them and then let them go to the bank for me to rescue. Pennies were over 300 million minted I think, 6m for nickels and 10m for quarters.

I have found out west this year that some of the penny rolls I get from banks must be people dumping rolls they have been sitting on for a long time. I have received almost BU rolls and plastic mint wrapped rolls (95,96) in boxes. Early 2014 I picked from TD someones collection of date sorted rolls 51-98 in paper shotgun wrap, pencil marked with date, almost 900 rolls. Now this may not quite qualify as circulation coin but someone spent alot of time doing this. The tellers thought I was nuts.

Will do, on sale for $5, regular $10, Boxing Day sale.
Any goodies in the paper shotgun wraps hope the 1970's babies were from there, 1985, other varieties, maybe an estate that cashed them all in, nice score, can see the looks on the tellers now?

Yes going through those rolls was fun as alot of sorting work was already done. 4 rolls each mint wrap 1995/96, 13 rolls 1985 I got 8 pointed 5s. I think I got 5 1953 sf, almost all of the 90s pennies was very clean with little wear. The manager said the couple bring it in had started with nickel, dime and quarters but I had missed those drops by a couple months (slap forehead at this point). I was happy to get the pennies. The oldest was 2 rolls of 1951 in average shape. This was probably my best penny grab from a bank yet, it was in April.

You were in the right place at the right time. You will have a nice collection through searching rather than buying, will cost you the face value plus your time, but as you say that is the fun part. Then sell off the extras to fund what you want.
I go and exchange one roll of quarters I cleaned the other day and one gave me a look, have to get used to that, trying to have the tellers at my bank save stuff for me. I'm sure they have lots to do, and they are all very nice.

You are right , most of my coins are FV purchases. I only have a small portion that I paid higher for. I have not dumped much of the pennies yet, kinda waiting to see what the BOC withdrawal does, but little risk at face.
Yes the tellers and managers are the key for roll hunting.

Luck just seems to be on everyone's side so far! My friend has just told me she has two large dollar coins, one from 1970, one from 1986, I'm getting them tomorrow, they may not be silver, but they're still nice to have right? :D
