I'm retiring from acquiring! Please note my new temporary signature below...Good Stuff for collectors of 19th-century British and Canadian colonial exonumia.
Meanwhile, these three British silver tokens from 1811-1812 share a common obverse depicting the famous equestrian statue of King Charles I that was installed near London's Trafalgar Square in 1675.
Across the three denominations issued -- eighteen pence, shilling and sixpence -- there were 17 types featuring this obverse. Aside from two that are TPG-slabbed, these three are the "best" of the ten different types I've managed to accumulate over the years. Issuers for the first two are unknown to us, while the sixpence was struck as an advertising piece by the notorious private mintmaster Henry Morgan, per the reverse legend.Left to right: Dalton Middlesex 2 bis, 9, and 35.

I'm retiring from acquiring! Please note my new temporary signature below...two sales in one with Good Stuff for collectors of either/both 19th-century British and Canadian colonial exonumia.
Meanwhile, this ruddy-toned specimen is my 1811-1812 silver shilling token issued in Lincoln, England "to facilitate trade," per the reverse legend. According to J.O. Mays, a 20th-century cataloger, this piece "was circulated anonymously by unknown shopkeepers as a token for general use by the public."
Mays goes on to write that it "...cannot have been issued in quantity, for today it is one of the rarest in the series."Lincolnshire, Dalton 14, Davis 14, RRR.
