I'm sure a lot of people may be upset about the O Canada set, But I kind of like the O Canada gold set. I didn't have a opportunity order the original one and am thinking about ordering this one. But 900 feels way to much to spend on myself and with Christmas just around the corner I don't want to be left with less then I already have. Plus I bought the factional for myself already. Maybe I should sell something older in my collection.

... I think this time they minted an additional 1500 and gold plated them...

@ shopaholic: Please don't deceive yourself.

These gold plated coins are obviously left over stock from the original mintage of 40,000 of each coins.

The mint could not sell them all via subscription nor individually. So what to do with the leftovers?

Somebody in the sales department had the "brilliant" idea of adding a simple amount of gold plating and creating a "rare" set of 1,500. They then could gouge the gullible into purchasing this at a highly inflated price.

Let's face it the mint could care less about what collectors think. As my wife says, it's all about maximizing profits!

@chubbycheeks

Just so you know, Colonial is now selling the first 10 coins and the box for less than retail.

Thanks to a fellow member who posted the information in this forum, I ordered their set and I'm very happy with it. Not only did I get the box, but they also included the individual box, COA and clamshell for each of the 10 coins!

The way I see it, when the first "O Canada 2014" coin will be released, I will put back my 2013 coins in their individual boxes and display my 2014 coins in the wooden box. I then won't have to deal with the cheap/ugly 2014 carboard box!

Not so sure about that. Maybe the COAs will give clues to what they actually did.

If the coa is xx/1500 and the other 1/2oz sets say xxx/40000 that would indicate a total of 41500.

For other series/individual coins, the COA includes the full mintage. That is, if you buy a group of seven coin the coa will say xxx/7000 whether you buy it individually or as part of the sub.

The 'new' O Canada set has a different box and different coins (ya just plating but still distinguishable).

Does anyone have the 6 coin subset? Does the COA say xx/40000. I'm sure it does.

Anyone have the plated set? I bet it says xxx/1500.

CC, why do have to guess, the mint should be transparent and tell the public where the gilded lilies come from.

Good one. I should be younger, richer and better looking too.

Keep reaching for the stars.

CC-Ottawa so you're buying the gold plated set to verify the COA's?

nope. Ugly and extremely overpriced. But I'm sure someone will or can check a COA somewhere. Maybe I'll ask the mint and see what they tell me - I love the sound or crickets.

Hey everyone sounds like some good discussion going on!

Personally I am going to just stick with the 2013 set of O'Canada 1/2oz and the beauty of a set 1oz.

I'm not to sure about the 2014's

@coinzchange, I just ordered 1 oz 2013 complete set with walnut case(Gatewest) & did not want to regret not ordering the 2014 1 oz silver subscription. I think this could be a nice set but we will see...

I think I will too. I had to subscribe to 2014 1 oz silver set also due to my regrets of not subscribing to the 2013 1 oz silver subscription. I think I was lucky to find the 2013 still available with a good price. I look forward to receiving the 2014 coins & the same walnut case that comes with the 2013 set.

Maybe I will have to take a closer look at the 2014 1oz series. I just don't know about the 2014 1/2 oz though!

The Proof Polar Bear 1.5oz and set of 1.5oz and .25 Gold are only available to Canada through the RCM. In the U.S. I just saw that Lear Capital (sellers of the bullion silver and gold bears) have the proofs listed on their website and are saying they are the American distributor of the coins. Interesting. The coins appear to look much better in proof at least to me.
