Quote: another poor quality planchet (not common for this series)
not gonna lie, I kind of have a crush on misfits like these Wade, Love that 1861 NS Cent as well, I see a die clash on the reverse from right side bottom of crown to inner ring. See mine and compare, yours is not a full clash and maybe not a full strike with less metal there to press. What a neatly messed up planchet.

Don
yours is about as crystal clear as it gets, BEAUTY
mine (recently) arrived as polished, more copper color on the highlights than bronze as shown in photos - but it will re-tone over time so will tuck it away and wait... and wait..
curious, what did yours grade?

VF Details Hairlines, Clash wasn't noted in details, I think if the gunk was removed it would be a nicer coin, but the clash may show less contrast.

This thread is supposed to be about tokens. How did it turn into a coin thread? There is a similar coin thread I'm sure.

1854 crosslette 4, while I already own an MS example, this one was picked for only double what it cost to get graded

Even after a looooong verdicare treatment I am not sure this will ever be presentable, but the rarity of poor quality planchets for this series made me have to have it (can't go wrong for under $10 regardless!)

But if that's the case, I'm surprised, because I completely missed it. It's the variety Courteau #076 - R.8 (Frequency ot this variety amoung 1/2 Penny 1852: +/-1.5%). Otherwise, in the last 12 months, I have listed 10 tokens from this series that have been offered via ebay, and which had relatively important quality planchet problem.
I'm sorry if my English isn't perfect... I'm learning a little more every day.

yes, it was an ebay purchase, apparently it has been listed since January (?) but to the best of my memory this was this first time I saw it.

While I haven't started a low-ball collection, YET, if I were to start one, this is the one I would start with. For under $20 I just felt the need to keep this rarity from getting trashed:
