Here's a pair of silver rounds I recently acquired - the one on the right portrays the parade of tall ships in New York harbor in 1986 during the Statue of Liberty celebration. Given the events that've transpired since that time, the use of the twin towers of the World Trade Center as a backdrop is rather poignant.

I posted this in the 'How Far Back Can We Go' thread for 1982, and then realised it too had sailing ships on the design, which shows the coat-of-arms of Costa Rica:

The 20 Zlotych circulating commemorative (1980) depicts the Dar Pomorza training ship of the Polish marine. The vessel was built in 1930.

I picked up this 1990 Fiji issue today, although in posting it I may be stretching the definition of a "ship" a bit....

Such vessels proved capable of traversing enormous distances, however.
