I continue to enjoy this thread daily as a lurker. Great coins. Med, just how many coins do you own? I am amazed at how endless your collection seems to be. Btw, I don't know if you (or TC or others) post at Forvm/Forum...there is a new thread by OldMoney there, trying to connect with other Aussie ancient collectors: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/bo...en#msg619638

Quote: just how many coins do you own? Around 1200 properly attributed coins fitting this forum, you can add over hundred which are not or only partly attributed. Not counting duplicates though, like eg Sorry, these coins belong into decades coming up in a few weeks/months time, so no description for these here. My more modern world coin collection (which is more or less inactive) is far bigger, but mostly cheap circulation coins (I used to enjoy those 10c and 20c junk boxes). As per your other question: I am not a member of any other coin related forum (and at this stage at least don't see the need for it).

Impressive. And, if you don't mind my asking, how many years devoted to collecting ancients? (sorry about posting the questions here...but your additions to this, and the "guess the emperor" thread, prompted them)

Sorry, with the recent guessing on my age I will hold back on answering this at this stage. Btw, the two groups shown in my last post cost me less than $20 combined.

Quote: Are those little ones Indian fanams medieval ? Indian yes, Fanams no (rather forerunners if you want to compare them). Exonumia won't qualify for ensuring progress, but it's okay to post them in the appropriate decade. So if you have Fatimid glass tokens, old coin weights or ancient brothel tokens (those are excluded if too explicit though) you are welcome to show them at the right time.

Hopefully this is ok to post now,the date range is a bit broad though, but quite an interesting token. A penny-sized Boy Bishop token. This type is believed to originate from the Abbey of Bury St. Edmunds. From the reign of Edward I to that of Henry VIII, certain large churches and abbeys elected a boy bishop to serve each year at Christmas time. The boy was chosen from the church choir, and his term of office ran from December 6 (St. Nicholas' Day) to December 28 (Innocents' Day). His duties included preaching sermons and distributing tokens to the congregation. The tokens could be used at local shops to buy food and drink, the church having made arrangements to reimburse the proprietors. Issue Date: 15th - 16th century References: Edward Fletcher, Leaden Tokens & Tallies, pp. 27-31 Gordon Bailey, Finds Identified, p.7, Fig 12

'Gooner' (never seen one before) and 'Petrus': nice stuff, but please post the next ones at the last decade viable - no harm done here, because the decade is settled and we will go into 1401-1410 tonight.

Quote: Congrats on the extensive collection. Thanks 'Bob_L', but many here including yourself have far nicer coins. My focus has been diversity and while I have targets (like eg one coin from each Macedonian King), my approach is more opportunistic, ie I grab something when it comes along at an interesting price rather than to chase a specific coin I want.

Off to the 141st decade of our current era, the final one for the 15th century, ie
1401-1410 now.
Feel free to post any coin of a different type from the 15th century you missed posting in the last few days.
