Comprehension. Too much to ask? I'll ask you the same question (which no one has answered yet), You get a neg because the coin you sold is cleaned but you clearly stated it in the listing. Does that buyer deserve the positive you left because they paid? Please don't avoid the question like poster after poster in previous threads have done.

I understand your frustration with the behavior you've described, but it does not change the fact that the transaction is not over when the buyer pays. There are countless things that can go wrong after this point. Sellers can misbehave as you've described and so can buyers. As a seller, I do not want to be held hostage by a buyer who is dishonest or just plain stupid. The only way to minimize the chance of this is to leave feedback only after the buyer has left feedback indicating his satisfaction. As I said previously, it is a flawed system and those of us who are honest must make the best of it.

By the way, I have no problem if a buyer such as yourself chooses not to leave feedback at all. What usually happens is that I receive positive feedback within a week or so of shipping. I respond with positive feedback the same day in almost all cases.

I've been flat out blackmailed on another ID. "Refund $20 or I'm going to neg you." Of course, that was when I was new and left feedback upon payment, wouldn't have happened if I didn't. (Sounds like the often heard "hostage situation" to me.) Fortunately the numb-skull emailed that threat through ebay's system.

At first I also left feedback upon receiving payment but I learned my lesson after my first few sales. Now I wait till they receivethe package and I follow up with a question or two if everything is alright and leave feedback then after receiving mine first. I remember seeing my % go from 100 to something like 60, tat hurt  but all is good now. As a seller I understanding leaving feedback after receiving feedback first and as a buyer I understand wanting to receive feedback immediately after payment.

In my opinion, yes. If you leave positive feedback and then some 'sour-grapes' buyer leaves you negative feedback for the cleaning, you have the option to respond to his feedback. I realize this will leave you a black mark but most buyers will read that negative feedback and realize who's at fault. Any other way and you're holding the buyer hostage for positive feedback, and as an honest buyer, I resent that. Just my humble opinion.

I guess I'm not following you. I would have already left positive feedback if he/she had paid promptly. That's my point, like I said, I won't hold my buyer's hostage in order to get positive feedback. Again, I don't like it done to me and I won't do it to anyone else.
I've read many gripes about buyers being afraid to leave negative feedback because they're afraid of getting it in return (even though it may not be warranted). Doesn't this practice defeat the purpose of feedback to begin with? At any rate, I don't want to be one of those sellers.

Please answer my question. If you listed a coin as cleaned and the buyer negged you for selling them a cleaned coin, and you hadn't left them feedback yet, would you still leave them a positive because they paid? You either believe paying is the buyers only responsibilty or you don't. quote: That's my point, like I said, I won't hold my buyer's hostage in order to get positive feedback.
But it's OK if a buyer does it to me? I got news for ya, there's just as many scam buyers as sellers on ebay. When you've sold as much as I have you'll find out.

I could just as easily resent the fact that you're telling me I hold feedback hostage because I don't leave feedback when payment is made. Feedback is 100% voluntary. What if I decided to leave no feedback for anyone. You OK with that? It's impossible for a seller on ebay to be more honest than us. Send it back no questions asked and we'll refund shipping both ways immediately. To say I hold feedback hostage is ludicrous in my opinion. Do I resent the fact that you call me a hostage taker? Nope, because I have hundreds of regular customers that keep coming back and couldn't care less that we don't leave feedback first.

To answer your question, I don't really know, it's never happened to me. If it does sometime in the future, I'll deal with it then. quote: I got news for ya, there's just as many scam buyers as sellers on ebay.
Please note that I haven't accused anyone, either buyer or seller, of scamming nor have I implied it. Having said that, I guess I've said enough on this subject, seems I've ruffled a few feathers. I knew that back a few posts and should have dropped it then. All the best. Red

Back when ebay was young, sellers left feedback when payment was received. My issue with feedback is that I have left feedback for sellers that did not leave it, then they never bothered to leave feedback(laziness, got what they wanted, couldn't give a rats bottom) Buyer feedback and seller feedback need to be separate issues. An awful lot of disputes in ebay transactions are due to communication problems, and face it, there are a lot of dense bidiots out there that hit the bid key before they read the auction. Maybe by that measure you should be able to qualify feedback, payment vs. resolution of a dispute. I really do not like leaving positives, and getting nothing in return from some seller I paid right away, probably because in reality they are careless. I can think of one well known paper money dealer in S. California that comes to mind here, he even gets a negative in non ebay transactions. Contact the guy on a probably $400 + order for foreign paper money and it takes weeks for a reply. Then on ebay he takes forever to send the note I bought and holds my feedback hostage until I leave one. So I leave one and get nothing. Needless to say that dealer will NEVER get my business again. As a seller I got a negative one time, because I left a negative for a non paying bidder. I thought it was ridiculous, now five years on, that someone that did get three non payment strikes in a week got NARU'ed from ebay for awhile, but not before leaving myself and two other sellers negatives. Face it ebay feedback sucks. I hope I answered your ?

halfdollarnut, I just want to jump in and state without a doubt that you have not ruffled feathers here. You are on a subject that is near and dear to Mom and Dad's heart here as they have a respectable business on ebay. They have seen and been involved in more things dealing with ebay than probably most of our feedback scores combined. Having said that, in time you will realize that Dad's responses can sometimes seem like he is sitting there with a red face slamming his fingers into the keyboard while typing his responses, when in fact he probably has a smirk on his face and is thinking "ok, here's another fact for you to ponder, what say ye?". Conversations and posts like this are a great read on this forum, and I can tell you that Bobby would not be responding over and over if he didn't think this was a worthy post for all to read. Keep up the questions and comments. As long as they keep to the forum guidelines of family friendly without someone getting too perturbed, these are very healthy and allow a lot of folks to learn.
