I picked up this beautiful 1 Rupee silver coin minted for the Bengal Presidency, between 1833-35 (Year 45). I could not spot a mintmark so I assume that it was minted in Sagar. From my internet search I think the writing on the Obverse translates to "Struck coin on the seven climes, Shadow of Allah's favour, Shah Alam Emperor, Defender of the faith of Mohammad" The writing on the Reverse as "Struck at Farrukhabad in the 45th year of his tranquil prosperous reign" Perhaps a CCF member who has good command of the Arabian language can proof-read and correct this interpretation. Thank you. Also, I am a little confused as the Farrukhabad mintmark "dot in the centre of four-dotted circle on Reverse side at 5 o'clock" is clearly missing on my coin. A very beautiful coin that really "spoke" to me. I love the contrast in toning between the raised and recessed parts of the coin Squire

1898 5 Kori of the Princely State of Kutch. Came across this one in a dealer's "junk" silver bin today. Although its silver content is high (.937 pure), it seemed to me a bit too nice from a numismatic standpoint not to merit rescue from having been mixed in with smelter-bound trash. Around the periphery of the obverse, the legend reads, "Maharaja Dhiraj Mirza Maharao Shri Khengarji Sawai Bahadur", a reference to Khengarji III, whose reign as king of Kutch was extraordinarily long, lasting from 1875 all the way up to 1942. The reverse translates as, "Victoria, Empress of India, struck at Buhj AD 1898".

Still trying to find an answer to why this coin is as rare as hens teeth. 1947 B 1/2 Anna. Simply don't see this coin anywhere. I think in 7 years I have seen 3. Neither PCGS or NGC have ever graded one. It has a high catalogue value but why? What happened to the rest of the mintage?
