Quote: Good price on the spade coin! It looked like it was in excellent condition. I'll keep my eyes open to get one. :) I was very fortunate to get the lot it came in. There were 8 rare ancient Chinese coins, and I paid on average $30 each for them. The ones I knew for certain that were genuine covered the cost of the lot. The ones that I was unsure of, I got authenticated by Roger Doo, the ex-curator of the numismatic collection of the Shanghai Museum. The value of the 8 coins is in excess of $2000, and I still have all but the two most common pieces. This knife coin was broken at the handle. If it was intact, the value would easily be in the $1500-2000 range. But as-is, it is probably worth $200-400.

I remember the coin collection in the Shanghai Museum, it was impressive - I recommend everyone who's traveling there to visit it. Entry is free! And honestly, I couldn't see that the handle was broken on the pic - I guess it was somehow put together again?
