That 1896 with the reeded edge is sure an oddity! I've seen an 1883 w/o cents reeded like such, but an 1896? What the? I'd love to have that in my collection.

I got this peseta in change in Spain in the early 1980s. Someone has scratched off all the legends and design on the reverse, leaving just the letters 'ETA'. ETA at the time was a very active terrorist organisation campaigning for independence for the Basque Country. It's interesting that the vandal left the King's portrait and obverse untouched!
