Quote:Here's one of my scarcest coins, that I snatched out of ebay for a good price, where it was mislabelled. Chile 1867 1 peso, nicknamed "Pechugon". That's a holy grail of Chilean coinage. Only a small amount was minted (all soft strikes) before the popular Un peso or "Aguila" design was introduced the same year and used until 1894. Congratulations! that is indeed a very scarce coin. There are approximately 15-25 examples of the 1867 'Pechugon' pesos in existence (per my estimation and observations over 30 years), and yours seems to be in a nice very fine condition. Not exactly the holy grail of chilean republican coinage (that honor belongs to the Coquimbo Peso, with the 1817 'Volcano' peso without assayers initials as well as other Volcano dates and types being a close second), but it still is a very scarce and desirable coin. I also have one, but unfortunately corroded and not pretty.

Thanks you very much. Yes it is from that sale. Painful, yet meaningful purchase for the collection.

@Zohar444 The original is evasive in non-tampered form fantastic coin, congratulations! the first example of a long tradition of taler/crown-size silver coins even when such coin would be a bit tampered by time, it would still represent an asset in any collection
