TNG and yarm......I went back to my LCS today to see if I could get anything else from that collection of medals. I'm not very knowledgeable about tokens. There were maybe one hundred scattered at the bottom of a large plastic tote. I decided to accumulate them all into a neat pile in a smaller bucket. As I did so I was looking at each one, but as I say I know nothing of tokens. But three looked familiar,and I felt like I had seen similar in this thread from one of you, so I grabbed them. If either of you would like them I would be glad to send them to you. I have three identical ones if they are of use.   |

That is very kind of you thisistheshow. I know 999fine is kind of busy right now but he is into the 1933 Chicago Century of Progress Worlds Fair. I don't have that one but wouldn't want three, that's for sure. I think you should study the items in these kind of ebay searches and others. Study is the key, buying medals is tricky, I know I've made more than some mistakes and probably will make more, but I am making less than I used to. Don't worry about buying immediately in that bin, the chances are they'll be there next time you go back. Maybe remember what grabs you in looking through it, go see what they are worth and pick them out next time and see if you can get them cheap. There isn't a big line at the door of your coin dealer shop with people looking for medals. |

Yes, perhaps it was 999fine I meant to mention.  . Anyway, TNG, if you would like one, just shoot me an email. No charge. When I was there I picked up two more medals, but no tokens other than those three. I have benefited from this thread tremendously. I have seen enough great tokens here to know that I don't know anything about them other than I like the ones that all of you post. I am not yet branching out into tokens myself. Not yet anyway. Edit to add: I appreciate the links TNG. I definitely do not intend to make too many mistakes in my purchases. . Getting those recent medals, at such a low cost, was great. Any more expensive purchases are on on the back burner for now. Edited by thisistheshow

Bad listing, bad photos, $7 gamble, paid off rather nicely IMO. A Souvenir from My Army Tour in Germany:
I was stationed in Nurnberg Germany ca 1970-1971. The year 1971 marked the 500th anniversary of the birth of Bavarian artist Albrecht Durer, born in Nurnberg, in 1471.
I remember visiting an exhibition at a Nurnberg museum of his work including his self-portrait painting (depicted on the medal.) Also numerous sketches and prints for which he is known.
I don't recall exactly who was selling this item but I had a few DMks in my pocket that day and purchased this item. So at 49 years in my possession, I trust posting it after all these years is okay.
The reverse shows Nurnberg Castle which was an okay tour itself, but the wine garden at the base in early summer was a true lovers retreat for me and my wife.
Medal weighs .89 oz, .999 silver, and measures just over 1.5 inches diameter and is as lovely in person (and memory) as the day I bought it.
