Sculpted by Jose de Moura, this 79mm Bronze dates to 1978. It was struck by Gravo in Lisbon, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the theoretical physicist's birth (03/14/1879) The Portuguese inscription on the reverse: "O universe real e um espaço curvo, de curvature variåvel no espaço e no tempo, de acordo com a densidade dedistributåo da materia ." Literal Translation: "The real universe is a curved space, with variable curvature in space and time, according to the distribution density of matter. " A friend who spent two years on an LDS mission to Brazil who speaks and reads the language offered this translation: "The real universe is a curved space, which curvature varies in space and in time in accordance with the density of the material or matter distributed throughout that space."

Sculpted by Jose de Mauro, circa 1981, 79mm bronze, struck in Lisbon by Gravo in an edition of 500, this example is not numbered. Seller says there were "artist tests" which were not numbered. The reverse features Picasso's 1937 work, "Guernica." Reverse Detail: The Historical Context of Picasso's painting and more -- including this anecdote: Quote: Guernica, Picasso's most important political painting, has remained relevant as a work of art and as a symbol of protest, and it kept the memory of the Basque town's nightmare alive. While Picasso was living in Nazi-occupied Paris during World War II, one German officer allegedly asked him, upon seeing a photo of Guernica in his apartment, "Did you do that?" Picasso responded, "No, you did." -- can be found at this LINK .

Got this today - an 1811 Cornish halfpenny token from Scorrier House at Redruth. England needed tokens at this time because The Royal Mint couldn't afford the copper to make regal coinage - no official pennies were struck between 1807 and 1825:

Quote: Got this today - an 1811 Cornish halfpenny token from Scorrier House at Redruth. Excellent! Quote: England needed tokens at this time because The Royal Mint couldn't afford the copper to make regal coinage - no official pennies were struck between 1807 and 1825 I suspect it was that scuffle with Napoleon and its aftermath.

Apparently, they couldn't afford copper in the late 18th century either, considering the large number of privately minted halfpennies.
