Here is another one that we will never know the story for but it's fun the speculate. This is on a 1752 half penny and HMB may stand for ""His Majesty's Bark". "His Majesty's Bark Endeavour," also known as HMS Endeavour, was a British Royal Navy ship, originally a coal-carrying ship named the Earl of Pembroke, refitted and commissioned for Lieutenant James Cook's first voyage of discovery to Australia and New Zealand from 1769 to 1771.

Quote: Gilroy Roberts did this 1963 US Mint Presidential Medal portrait. Reverse includes LBJ's 11/22/63 date of office. It came with the original Philadelphia Mint shipping box; medal was in the original cello bag. Fantastic! I have a silver version of this medal in the 2015 C&C set.

Just catching up to cptbilly's discussion of 2-3 weeks ago about the Illinois Watch Company's essay contests and awards. This 32mm bronze medallion most likely had nothing to do with the contests but it does advertise that company's "A. Lincoln Watch," examples of which can be found -- even now in 2025 -- wherever high-quality antique pocket watches are sold. (It appears there was a wristwatch version as well.)
Speculation (mine, ahem) has it that this advertising trinket, with its patriotic overtones, accompanied each watch sold and could be seen on gentlemen's watch fobs from coast to coast for years.
Lincoln's effigy is signed "B.L. Pratt."

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
Greetings to all and a wee tot of the Redbreast from Dublin drapers/tailors O'Grady Clinton & Co., whose unofficial farthing token from 1852 is exuberantly decorated with today's obligatory harp and shamrocks.
