This halfpenny token was struck in 1821 for the London-based mercantile group of Solomon, Dickson, and Taylor, to facilitate and advertise their commercial activities on the tiny island of St. Helena in the South Atlantic, 1200 miles west of Luanda -- now Angola. These were in use until 1834 or so, when Britain's East India Company basically took over the economy under the authority of the Crown and officially demonetized them.
Solomon family records indicate that 70,560 were struck, but that turned out to be an oversupply, as the death of Napoleon on St. Helena in 1821 -- the same year they were issued -- brought about the immediate collapse of the non-agrarian sectors of the economy there with the departure of the 2,000 troops that had been garrisoned to keep him from escaping (as he had from Elba in 1815). As a consequence, circulation was relatively light, and reasonably priced examples can be found today.

Very nice, Daltonista. Also be on the lookout for the British East India's piece from that time. St. Helena Half Penny 1821

Thanks, Guys!
Have had a few of those, Hondo...used to collect all the colonies' tokens: Penang, Cocos, Essequibo, Gold Coast, Griquatown, Sierra Leone, Sarawak, Mombasa, etc., etc. Bottomless! But I never got around to finding an Andaman Island piece I could afford, though...one of my life's major disappointments.

USM Harry Truman 2nd Inaugural Medal, 3", bronze, by John R. Sinnock, is dual dated to reflect Truman's April 1945 assumption of the Presidency following FDR's death and Truman's subsequent January 1949 inauguration following Harry's 2.1 million vote margin of victory over New York governor Thomas Dewey in the 1948 presidential election: A hard-to-find ( and very pricey ) US Mint medal marking Truman's 1st Inaugural shares the same left-facing portrait; its reverse is shown below:
