AR denarius : 20 mm , 3.86 gr , 6 h . obv : bust of Minerva left , wearing Corinthian helmet and aegis , behind : RULLI . rev : Victory in biga right , holding palm-branch in left hand and reins in right hand , below P , in exergue : P(ublius) SERVILI(us) M(arci) F(ilius) . Mint : Rome , struck BC 100 . Ref : CR328/1 Number of dies : obv : 215 , rev : 269 . <the moneyer is doubtless the father of P.Servilius Rullus , apparently of consular ancestry , he is presumably descended from one or other of the Servilii Gemini . P indicates a coin struck from the argentum publicum . Traditionally , the date of july 13 in the year 100 is accepted as the birthday of Caesar . albert   |

decade 110 - 101 AR denarius , 19 mm , 3.88 gr , 5 h . obv : male head right , wearing oak wreath , below chin : mark of value . rev : The Dioscuri standing facing between their horses , each holding a spear , in exergue : L. MEMMI . Ref : Cr 304/1 Mint : Rome : moneyer Lucius Memmius , 109/108 . Number of dies : obv : 162 , rev : 202 . The obverse type remains unexplained . Also the reverse has an unusual representation of the Dioscuri . The Dioscuri are Castor and Pollux , son of Jupiter and are also sometimes called Tyndarides , because their mother, Leda, was the wife of Tyndaros , king of Sparta . The worship of the Dioscuri as divinities,had its origin at Rome from the victory wich the consul Postumius gained , near the Lagus Regillus , over the Latins and the sons of Tarquinius Superbus .It is related that , during the action, two young men , mounted op two white horses , were seen fighting valiantly for the Romans . In Rome , their festival was celebrated on the 28th of January . albert  |

AR denarius : 16 mm , 4 gr , 3 h . obv : helmeted head of Roma right , before : EX SC , behind : ROMA and mark of value -X-. rev : Horseman left , holding sword and head of a barbarian in left hand , under legs of horse : P , below : M. SERGI , in exergue : SILUS ( not on coin ) . Ref : CR286/1 Mint : Rome : 116-115 BC . Number of dies : obv : 287 , rev : 359 . EX SC : coin struck by senatus consultum . M. Sergius Silus is not known to have progessed beyond the quaestorship . He belongs to a collateral branch of the family of Catilina . The reverse type apparently portrays the grandfather of M.Sergius Silus , who was praetor in 197 and in his youth fought left-handed after losing his right hand in battle . albert  |

really nice coins , I was this morning in an auction , there were also nice tetradrachms , but I had no more money to spend for a Parthian . Maybe next time . I will be absent till the end of the week . albert
