No absolutely not. IT WAS A REGULAR FORUM POST.I hate the aftermath of spam attacks. Some become a frea kin' expert and makes others frea kin' panic. NO HACK. Usually the first thing people post after a spam attack. "We were hacked." If you posted that (you know who you are) STOP using the word now because you have no clue what it means. NO VIRUSES. NO MALWARE. NO REPRODUCTION TO OVERLOAD MEMORY CAPABILITY (Whatever the heck that means?) It was just buttholes posting bullcrap. OK? Quote: There are Bots roaming ALL websites, it is totally impossible to capture and control access to all of them. They sit waiting for ignorant (not being nasty, you may not know this!) people to post specific personal information such as credit card and personal email addresses to be posted or restricted websites. Once recognized and "grabbed" this becomes a gateway for the Bot to bring in all this garbage. Please explain to me how someone posting a CC# or email address leads to a spam attack like we just had. How does the email or CC# enable someone to "bring in all this garbage?" What do you find so interesting about a normal post by a normal member being at the top of the screenshot? http://goscf.com/t/60594

I definitely missed all of that nuisance. Thanks to Bobby and the staff for being on top of things and keeping this a great place! Quote: What I mean is to reproduce to overload memory capability. I think what you may be thinking of, Crazyb0, is a DoS or DDoS attack. I'm pretty sure that's not what happened, but I don't have a lot of knowledge in that area.

Thanks for taking care of the spam attacks Bobby. Correct, there was no malicious software that was present, it was just members that were creating spam posts.

Quote: Does anyone know what if anything will happen to the low lifes that did it,legal wise I mean? I doubt that there is a feasible way to figure out what person or people actually caused that. From what I understand, the only thing that can be done is blocking specific IPs (which can be rerouted). I'm not claiming to be an expert with this, but I am interested in it. Quote: When that happens, it's nearly impossible to post. Quite the opposite of what happened. That's what I wanted to say, but I don't really know. An attack of that sort is meant to essentially "crash" the site so that normal users have no access because the server is overloaded with requests. I'm trying to learn. We are all concerned about the forum. Some have a clue and some don't but the motivation is the same. We are members of a coin forum, after all. I would also suggest not using ALL CAPS in a post. Just sayin...

The spammers were in South Korea. Nothing we can do except be proactive.
Stuff like this is attempted every day. I have lots of traps set for them. I thwart 90% of them from even registering. Of the remaining 10% 98% of those are thwarted when they attempt to post.
When something like this happens, I study the conditions of it and tweak the traps.

I was on the forum the morning this happened (unusual to be on that early but couldn't sleep). Being pretty illiterate in computer stuff I stayed out of this conversation until now. But I am curious why someone would do this. My guess is it's some pitiful, pimple-faced geek with no life living in their Mama's basement in Seoul, seeking acknowledgement. If it is more than that I'd be interested to know.
