Good original thought. But I was considering, the rims. If the devices were removed, the rims would show that the coin was altered. When we look at a coin through a scope, you forget how close you are looking. Next time you have a coin under the scope, put a toothpick on top of the coin. It looks like a pencil. Then you realize that the devices can't be removed without affecting the bust or the rim. You would see the damage on the coin. And as already mentioned, the zinc would also be altered. The OPs coin does not show this as happening.
