love that gold piece, Hondo...nice 1 This Potosi 2 reales shows surface porosity consistent with salt-waster exposure & old cleaning. It may have come off of the Atocha, but no paperwork to verify that. Various mistakes in the design & striking of cobs, at Potosi, occurred in the years 1618 - 1623. This specimin has a very rare feature. The lions in the large cross are tilted west by 90 degrees. This anomaly only occurred in 1621. The bottoms of the last 3 date digits are (barely) visible (6 2 1), but are confirmed by the tilted lions. The castles are also slightly tilted, a feature yet recorded. Also, the castle design matches the design of 1621 It is possible that the last digit "1" is struck twice on this coin, but I can't be certain, & will seek help in determining this. ( some 2 reales struck at Potosi in 1623 show the date as 1 6 Z III. ) gladly added to my collection of Potosi Anomalies...
