Bought this one this morning. I'm in Southern California. The coin is residing in Maine at this moment. My check's in the mail. I figure maybe in a couple of weeks. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1881-CC-Mo...AOSwonBZ7QM-
I just finally got something different that relates to my Jefferson and Buffalo nickel collections. Designed and engraved by Felix Schlag, who won the contest to design the Jefferson nickel showing James Earle Fraser working with Chief John Big Tree as a model for the Buffalo nickel. Although there is a lot of controversy on who the actual Indian it really is on the Buffalo nickel, John Big Tree had a pretty big ego or he knew how to make money or he was an actor or all the above. I don't think he actually had anything to do at all with the profile on the Buffalo except promoting himself, like a number of others did, that it was they that were the one shown on it. That's just my opinion, but this medal profile looks absolutely nothing like that on the Buffalo.
I am glad to have this though as I have looked a long time for one that wasn't horribly tarnished or rubbed. It will grow on me for the numismatic connections it has to my sets.
Some photos of a recent bulk buy. This is my favorite way to buy 'darkside' coins. Hours & hours of glittery sorting fun! Cost for this batch was slightly less than $15.
